Archery: Hungarian Árpád Banda Comes Seventh At Indoor EC

Olympic-category Hungarian archer Árpád Banda came seventh at the 15th European Archery Indoor Championships held in Koper, Slovenia, between 24 and 28 February. 17-year-old fellow Hungarian Viktor Orosz won a gold medal in the junior field.
According to the event’s website, the Hungarian came sixth in qualifiers with 589 FITA-rounds in the 46-member field. He then beat a Ukrainian and then a Russian contestant but was defeated by Italian Massimiliano Mandia in quarter-finals, who later won the silver medal.
The year’s major event for indoor archers, who shot their arrows from a 18-metre distance at the European Championships, is to be held in Copenhagen in July. The qualifier (outdoor) World Championships will see contestant shooting from a 70-metre range. Mr. Banda, who has good chances of qualifying for Olympic participation, will compete in Denmark not only individually but also as part of a team, the Hungarian federation said on Monday.
17-year-old junior archer and last year’s World Championship winner Viktor Orosz won the title of European Champion in indoor archery for the first time in the sport’s history for Hungary.
