The cold breeze entering the northeastern areas of Hungary has brought with it a thin layer of snow covering Kékes in the Mátra Hills, which at 1014 metres is the highest spot of the country, by today morning.
The harsh weather is in stark contrast to temperatures just a few days ago, which saw half of the country stroll the streets in shorts and T-shirts. Polar winds entering the country resulted in these scenes on 25 April:
Cold temperatures have been causing problems in Austria, Germany and Belgium too, with up to 50 centimetres of fresh snow expected in the area around the border between Austria and Switzerland.
