Air Traffic Increases


Budapest-based airline Wizz Air’s twelve-month passenger numbers top 15 million, while Debrecen Airport has also seen record passenger numbers. The low-cost airline has set the record in August as passenger numbers increased by 17% from last year, while load factor has also climbed to 86%.

Wizz Air has recently also launched new flights to Lisbon and Maastricht, set to fly from the spring of 2015. The announcement was made by CEO József Váradi, saying that the flights are seasonal only, and the Lisbon plane will visit the city twice a week. The Maastricht flight will start in May, and Wizz will fly to the city four times a week. John Stephenson, vice president of the company, said in Budapest that the airline’s fleet is set to grow to 54 A320 aircraft by the end of this year.

In other news Debrecen Airport has announced an increase in passenger numbers, reaching 100.000 annually. The international airport, set in East Hungary, reached the landmark number on Monday, presented mayor Lajos Kósa and airport operator István Herdon. The 100.000th passenger of the year was a young woman, traveling from Romania to London. According to estimates, passenger numbers could reach up to 150.000 this year. (MTI)
