Mountaineer Szilárd Suhajda arrived at the base camp of Mount Everest on Tuesday as planned. At the same time, the first phase of the Kyocera Everest Expedition, the so-called pre-acclimatization period, during which the climber prepared for the continuation of the climb for two weeks between 4,400 and 5,800 meters, was successfully completed, according to a statement sent to MTI by the organizers of the Kyocera Everest Expedition 2023.
The next chapter of the undertaking will be the start of the actual climbing activity and further acclimatization on the mountain, during which over the next three to four weeks, the Hungarian climber is expected to acclimatize his body to the changes in air pressure at altitudes of 7-8,000 meters, and thus to the rarefied air, and to carry the equipment necessary for further climbing and camping on the mountain, all on his own, relying only on his own strength.

Szilárd Suhajda set off from Hungary to Nepal on March 23 to attempt to climb the highest peak of the Himalayan mountain system – the highest peak on Earth – using clean methods, without the use of artificial oxygen and without the use of high-mountain load-bearing helpers, i.e. sherpas.
The highest peak of the Himalayas, at 8,848 meters, has never been reached with this method by a Hungarian citizen.
According to the information, the very first ascent without an oxygen tank was made by the world-famous pair Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler. Until 1978, the profession and science considered it an impossible task. In the 45 years since then, only 2 percent of those who have reached the summit of Mount Everest have done so without artificial oxygen. That is just over 200 climbs worldwide, but typically these climbers were assisted by Sherpa porters or a serious back-up team.
Szilárd Suhajda will move around the mountain as an autonomous, independent climber, carrying all his own equipment, setting up his high camps on his own, and not using any other resources above base camp, other expeditions’ camps or the services of the forward base camp.
He uses the so-called fixed ropes laid out on critical sections of the route to secure himself and move around the route on his own, they say.
The summit climb of Kyocera Everest Expedition 2023 is expected to take place after the acclimatization period, in the second half of May.
