Mercedes Management Informs Minister About Progress in Hungary

The Minister of Economic Development, Márton Nagy, received the executives of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. at his office on Monday, with the participation of the company’s CEO Christian Wolff, CFO Karsten Twele and Sándor Dávid, head of communications and external relations.

In addition to economic developments, the parties reviewed the situation in the vehicle manufacturing sector and competitiveness issues in the sector. Minister Nagy stressed that vehicle production is one of the pillars of Hungary’s economic performance, alongside battery production, and is also considered a priority sector in the new industrial strategy currently being developed by the government.
Mercedes is one of the most successful automotive groups in the world, with a presence on five continents. The Mercedes-Benz Group achieved sales of €150 billion and employed around 170,000 people last year. In Hungary, at the Kecskemét plant south of Budapest, Mercedes has been present for almost 15 years, produces around 135,000 vehicles a year, has a turnover of more than €3 billion and employs almost 5,000 people, they said.

Márton Nagy stressed that even in an economic situation hit by war and sanctions, it is necessary to weather the recession and further increase competitiveness. In order to protect the Hungarian automotive industry and preserve jobs, it is necessary to enter the subsidy race, increase investment and the inflow of working capital.
