Budapest Airport to Have Its Own Fire Brigade

The operator of the Liszt Ferenc International Airport is setting up an on-site fire brigade with a large team and one of the best equipped bases in Europe, AIRportal.hu reported. As it was emphasized, Budapest Airport is already accepting applications for firefighters, subject to the duration of the necessary training.

Currently, the airport is staffed by firefighters from Disaster Management, but due to a change in legislation at the end of December, Budapest Airport will be obliged to provide firefighting staff from October this year, the management told the portal. This means that it will only take nine months to set up a large, so-called “facility fire brigade,” which will also meet the special requirements of the airport.

Those joining the staff will be offered a competitive benefits package and a stable working environment, as well as all the necessary training.

The primary tasks of airport firefighters are to perform firefighting and rescue duties, to ensure readiness to arrive on the scene within three minutes, and to provide fire protection for buildings at the airport.

Budapest Airport has already supported the airport fire brigade, the operator remarked: it has been responsible for maintaining the bases, providing equipment and purchasing the fleet of vehicles (including the latest Panther vehicles). As a result, Liszt Ferenc Airport now has one of the best-equipped airport fire brigades in Europe, and firefighters are trained in theory and practice in aircraft firefighting and rescue.

The new facility firefighting team will work under the command of Fire Chief Gábor Nagy, who held the position of Airport Fire Chief for seven years and decided to continue in this position at Budapest Airport from February 1.
