Europe Is Sleepwalking into War, MEP Warns

EU sanctions are doing more harm to Europe than to Russia, according to Fidesz MEP Balázs Hidvéghi. He accused Brussels of leading Europe into war.

“A year into the brutal war here in our neighborhood, hundreds of thousands of people have already died, and the destruction has not spared the civilian population. In such a situation, all efforts should be directed towards a deeper ceasefire and a peace agreement,” Balázs Hidvéghi, MEP of Hungary’s governing Fidesz party said in a Facebook video on Tuesday.

The politician noted that “Brussels has imposed sanctions on us, promising that they will bring the end of the war closer, but that has not happened.”

Instead, it is the people of Europe who are paying the price for bad decisions, and the war is not only not over, but is becoming increasingly violent and dangerous,”

he pointed out. According to Hidvéghi, “the latest resolution of the European Parliament is a veritable pro-war manifesto, urging that fighter aircraft and long-range missile systems should now be delivered to Ukraine.”

But where is this leading? After tanks, fighters and missiles, we are left with the deployment of troops, and that would be tantamount to a world war,”

Hidvéghi warned. “One gets the feeling that the Western world has plunged into a collective pro-war psychosis, just as it did in 1914 at the outbreak of the First World War,” he said, adding that “we are teetering on the brink, and most politicians in Brussels are marching blindly forward.” “Hungary must stay out of this war at all costs. We must not allow irresponsible and incompetent politicians in Brussels to lead us into disaster,” Hidvéghi concluded.
