Unsuspecting citizens of the sleepy little town of Dunakeszi, North of Budapest, have witnessed a spectacle rarely seen in their parts of the world. One of the top figures in Chinese diplomacy, State Councilor Wang Yi, had visited their town accompanied by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. The reason for the visit from the representative of one of the most powerful nations in the world? The irresistible lángos.
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó posted a message on his Facebook account saying :”after the fifteenth round of bilateral talks, and during the first lángos eating. One plain, one with cheese and sour cream”.
Lángos is a deep fried flatbread, popular with locals, but also among tourists visiting Hungary. There are near infinite varieties for topping, but the garlic sauce and cheese-sour cream toppings are perhaps the most popular.
