Thousands of Parents Submit Their Opinion on Educational Issues

Barbara Bene 2022.12.12.

More than a hundred thousand parents have already filled out the questionnaire for the education consultation since 1 December, the government spokesman said on Saturday. Alexandra Szentkirályi stressed that the government always asks for people’s opinions on important issues, whether it is EU sanctions against Russia, illegal immigration or the coronavirus.

The Ministry of Interior launched the education consultation which parents of school children can fill in. Among the most important questions are issues that affect our children, such as child protection or education, Alexandra Szentkirályi underlined, adding that the first round of the education questionnaire, sought the views of teachers.

She pointed out that the questionnaires sent out concerned the time spent on writing lessons, private lessons and also school evaluation. The government spokesperson stressed that every parent’s opinion counts, and urged everyone to take advantage of this opportunity by 15 December.

As Hungary Today reported earlier,

one of the questions in the consultation asks parents about teachers’ increasing willingness to involve students in their protests over pay raises.

In several high schools, students recently organized a sit-in in support for their teachers and they are often present at demonstrations. Last Friday, students went to the headquarters of the Hungarian public media to protest against it. While officially these protests concern teachers’ pay demands, they are in fact getting increasingly politicized by the opposition and other political lobby groups.

At the demonstration on Friday, students were chanting and holding anti-government slogans indicating that they want a “free country”, and they also had demands for the public media. Students were getting on stage one after the other to give speeches and at one point, they crashed the screen of a television to show what they think about the Hungarian public media.
