The Blue Planet Foundation was established in 2016 by János Áder, Hungary’s then-president in order to raise society’s environmental awareness within and beyond the borders of Hungary. The foundation launched its .wave business development program earlier this year to support the development of innovative start-ups fighting climate change. Gabriella Sódar, the foundation’s business development manager, told MTI that .wave wants to be a regional hub for business development in the field of sustainability.

The three-month intensive development phase was completed by seven participants – five Hungarians and two Austrians – in the second round, including companies in the energy, food supply, waste recycling, and micromobility sectors. The free program provided startups with professional, business, financial, legal advice, and mentoring tailored to their business. They do not receive direct financial support under the program, but the foundation operates two venture capital funds to provide financial support for the best innovations. In addition, the program has put participants in contact with foreign and domestic investors, Sódar explained.
