Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and President Novák Katalin both congratulated former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose Likud party has won the general elections in Israel.

The Israeli electoral commission announced on Thursday that Netanyahu’s electoral bloc – together with right-wing and ultra-Orthodox parties – won a total of 64 seats of the Knesset’s 120 seats, of which his Likud party won 32 seats.

“Hard times require strong leaders. Congratulations on the big comeback to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a friend of Hungary,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote on Facebook.

The Prime Minister congratulated his long-time ally on Twitter too, where Benjamin Netanyahu answered.

Hungarian President Katalin Novák also congratulated Netanyahu on Twitter.

Speaking in Jordan earlier this week, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó welcomed the possibility of Netanyahu’s return to power.

“A stable Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu and a mid-term election victory for the US Republican Party would be a hopeful and encouraging development for peace in the Middle East,”

he said.
