Hunting is not only culture, tradition, and nature protection, but also an activity that “produces” food, said Hungarian Minister of Agriculture István Nagy at the International Festival of Game Gastronomy and Fejér County Hunting Day in Soponya on Saturday.

The Minister stated that the Ministry of Agriculture supports the Hungarian hunting community and is committed to ensuring that as many people as possible get to know and experience the inspiring power that the joy of just being in nature can give people.

In recent years, there has been progress and achievements in the sector. In 2017, the regional Chief Hunter Program was introduced. In addition, the “Guide to Survey and Assessment of Wildlife Damage in Forests,” and the “Unified Guide to Survey of Wildlife Damage in Agriculture” have been published to provide meaningful assistance in assessing and evaluating wildlife damage, he added.

The politician also pointed out that the National Council for Wildlife Management and the Regional Wildlife Management Councils were newly established this year.

Nagy explained that consuming game meat has many physiological benefits.

In recent years, more and more initiatives have been taken to promote and spread the unique benefits of eating game meat.

Hunters and cooks help each other, and festivals and shows give insight into this rich world of gastronomy, while specific cookbooks provide useful information.

The Minister emphasized that the 2021/2022 hunting year was a success: the sector achieved a profit of four billion forints. The Ministry of Agriculture will continue to support hunters in partnership, whether it’s promoting initiatives to preserve traditions, wildlife management awareness projects, or addressing current difficulties, he said.
