Following the month of May, the number of jobseekers in Hungary once again hit a new all-time low in June, the Ministry of Technology and Industry (TIM) announced on Facebook on Saturday.

According to the ministry, the record low number of jobseekers in Hungary has already been broken in the first month of summer, with the latest data showing that there are just over 230,000 jobseekers in Hungary. (230,309 people to be precise).

According to the social media post, until last month, the December 2019 data was the lowest with slightly over 235,000 people seeking jobs. This May, however, saw a new record of 234,000, with June bringing an even bigger drop and a new all-time low.

In the preceding period, due to a temporary surge in unemployment caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of jobseekers peaked at 370,000, but since this February, it has been steadily declining, the ministry said.

In a regional breakdown, the county of Győr-Moson-Sopron tops the list, with the share of jobseekers in the economically active population at only 1.2 percent. Budapest is second with 1.8 percent, followed by Csongrád-Csanád and Pest with 2.6 percent, and Komárom-Esztergom and Vas with 2.8 percent, the post said.

The ministry pointed out that employment in Hungary is still at record highs despite the recent coronavirus crisis and the war in Ukraine, with more people than ever before working in the competitive sector and the economy as a whole.

Unemployment is a third of what it was in 2010, and the Hungarian figure is the sixth lowest in the European Union, the post emphasized, adding that the government’s clear commitment is to achieve and protect full employment.
