Tímea Szabó Will Not Continue as Párbeszéd’s Co-President

Hungary Today 2022.04.29.

Along with Gergely Karácsony, Tímea Szabó will not run again for the co-presidency of the Párbeszéd party at the forthcoming election of officers congress, writes HVG.

On Wednesday, Tímea Szabó shared her decision with her party colleagues in a closed internal Párbeszéd Facebook group. She wrote that she decided not to run again, like her party’s other co-president, Gergely Karácsony, even though Párbeszéd managed to increase the number of MPs in the recent election, and it will have a six-member parliamentary group in the new Parliament that will be formed next Monday.

According to her, Párbeszéd, as one of the six parties responsible for the opposition’s electoral failure, and she as co-chair of the party, has a share of the responsibility, HVG reports.

Szabó, however, would like to be the leader of their parliamentary group. A decision on this will be made on Friday at the election of officers meeting of the group. Bence Tordai was also mentioned as a candidate for the position of floor leader, but he may be aiming for the position of co-president.

In any case, this means that there will be a complete change in the leadership of the party.
