Election 2022: Foreign Minister Welcomes Vucic Win in Serbia

MTI-Hungary Today 2022.04.04.

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó on Monday welcomed the victory of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic at Sunday’s general election, and said that the election in Serbia was important for Hungary too.

Szijjártó said on Facebook that the Serbian election results had an important effect on the future of Hungarians living in that country and on Hungarian-Serbian relations. “We have worked a lot on turning historic spite [between the countries] into a historic friendship,” he said.

“We were happy to see that yesterday’s elections allow to continue that work. Not only did we achieve a historic victory, so did President Aleksandar Vucic, a great friend of Hungary’s,” he said, adding that he had recently talked on the phone with “my friend and counterpart Nikola Selakovic”.
