Waterfall in Lillafüred Splashes Again

Hungary Today 2022.03.26.

Miskolc Waterworks restarted the waterfall in Lillafüred, the company posted on their website. The ice on Lake Hámori has melted and the waterfall can splash again due to the mild weather of the last few days. In the icy winter months, the waterfall must be stopped, as it can lead to dangerous situations.

According to the company, the waterfall is “fed” by the Sinva spring, which provides the natural flow of water. This flow is intermittent and depends on the amount of water that has accumulated in the beech karst. A pump installed in Lake Hámori more than ten years ago supplies water to the streambed. Due to the dry season, the karst water level is low, so the water currently has to be secured from there.
