MTI-Hungary Today 2022.03.12.

The opposition alliance’s prime ministerial candidate, Péter Márki-Zay, has pledged to help Hungary’s Roma catch up with the mainstream, and his recent visit to the Duranda district of Gyöngyös is an example of his commitment, a statement by For a United Hungary said on Friday.

Márki-Zay was shown round the segregated Roma housing project by Lajos Lőcsei, a candidate on the Momentum national list.

The statement noted that the Duranda housing project was initially established to provide a home for the disadvantaged, but now it gets into news reports in association with crime and poverty, and the fact that the municipality began dismantling the settlement in 2008 without finishing the job.

The opposition alliance is drafting a special manifesto for helping the Roma catch up, developed by a working group, the statement said.
