Ex-Legionnaire Arrested by Counter-Terrorism Center after Two Years in Hiding

Hungary Today 2021.12.10.

Police special forces tracked down a 52-year-old ex-legionnaire who had been sentenced to six years in prison back in May 2018, but had gone into hiding instead.

After the officers of the National Bureau of Investigation of the Rapid Response and Special Police Services (KR NNI) located him, Zsolt János L. was eventually arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Center (TEK) on Wednesday in Mátraszentimre, a village in Hungary.

He was convicted in May 2018 for sexual assault committed back in 2012 against one of his former colleagues.

After escaping instead of serving his sentence, an arrest warrant was issued in August 2019, so his hiding period officially lasted for more than two years.

Zsolt János L. had also served in the French Foreign Legion, so he may have had experience in concealment.
