Hungarian Nasal Spray Against Corona in Animal-testing Phase

Using a receptor capable of binding large quantities of the viruses in the blood, a nasal spray against the coronavirus has been developed at the University of Pécs and is already being tested on animals.

Ferenc Jakab, virologist at the University of Pécs, announced at a conference of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences last week that the spray developed from egg whites can bind the virus locally in the nose so that it cannot connect with the mucosa. According to pharmacist György Keserű, these new developments can be a huge step in combating the virus, as the fourth wave cannot be fought with vaccination alone.

According to Jakab, it is not up to the researchers when the nasal spray will become available to everyone. They themselves only accompany the procedure until the animal testing is completed, then it is out of their hands as clinical phases begin.
