Bus stop signs with QR codes that facilitate easier public transportation may soon become a normal part of city life after the Centre for Budapest Transport (BKK) announced that it is testing the concept on various bus stop signs. By scanning such QR codes, commuters can be redirected to a route-planning app on their smartphones that can help them get to their destination more easily.
If a commuter does not have the BKK FUTÁR application installed on their phone, they are redirected to a website which displays the buses heading toward that specific stop. This way people can know where their bus is and how long they need to wait until it arrives.
According to BKK’s statement, new updates are expected in the company’s application, including news on traffic and transportation change notifications from BKK INFO and notifications on gathering points for users of shared vehicles.
The current QR code-fitted bus signs can be found at the stops of Károly Boulevard, Ferenc Deák Square, March 15 Square, Gábor Dayka Street, Zsigmond Móricz Square, and Dráva Street. If the testing period has favorable results, the changes will be administered to BKK’s other stops as well.
