Opposition Politicians Liken Fidesz Party Congress to that of Former Hungarian Communist Party

Hungary Today 2021.11.15.

There is not much difference between the Fidesz party congress and a congress of the former Hungarian Communist Party (MSZMP), as the “boss” was re-elected unopposed, the mayor of Budapest believes. Most of the Hungarian opposition parties had the same opinion: they drew a parallel between the communist party congresses and the congress of Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party, where Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and even the vice-presidents were again elected without any opposing candidates.

Péter Márki-Zay, the joint opposition candidate for prime minister, shared his opinion about the party congress of Fidesz in a video posted on his Facebook page, saying that Fidesz politicians were no longer confident in their victory and that they became afraid for this reason.

Orbán Re-Elected as Fidesz Leader: "As long as I can I will carry on doing it"
Orbán Re-Elected as Fidesz Leader:

"I see the first 33 years, everything that has happened so far, as a warm-up. A lot has been achieved, but I feel it was just the beginning, just preparation for the really big things that are yet to come." Orbán said.Continue reading

Ahead of the meeting of Fidesz, Independent MP Ákos Hadházy posted a picture on his social media page depicting a Congress of the Chinese Communist Party with the text:

“It’s an exciting day, today is the Fidesz party congress. Will they re-elect the boss?”

According to Gergely Karácsony, the mayor of Budapest, there is not much difference between the Fidesz party congress and a congress of the former Hungarian Communist Party (MSZMP), as the “boss” has been re-elected unopposed, the West and the opposition have been harshly berated, and regional party officials are waiting for answers to unpleasant questions from party headquarters.

Independent lawmaker, Bernadett Szél, objected to the speech of Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén, in which he had praised Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for the outstanding handling of the pandemic, asking what would have happened in Hungary if Szél was the Prime Minister [Bernadett Szél was green LMP’s PM candidate in the 2018 elections]. According to Szél, Orbán deserves no praise for the handling of the pandemic, adding that under her leadership, Hungary would not have become the country with the worst fatality rate on the globe, and for example, free testing would have also been introduced, similar to neigboring Austria.

Tímea Szabó, co-leader of Párbeszéd, slammed a specific claim of the prime minister’s speech, namely that Hungary would no longer be a colony. According to the politician, the government was in fact planning to take a billion-dollar loan for the construction of the Budapest campus of Fudan University, which would in reality turn the country into a colony of China.

According to Jobbik president, Péter Jakab, Hungary is already among the top countries in corruption, poverty, taxes, lies, and arrogance. He also made fun of Orbán’s promise to eliminate poverty in the country within ten years. “How many times have we heard this promise,” he asked rhetorically.
