Foreign Minister: Vaccines Not Ideological Issue

MTI-Hungary Today 2021.07.03.

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, meeting his Seychelles counterpart in Budapest on Friday, said Hungary and the Seychelles had both carried out successful vaccination campaigns, adding that neither had turned the source of vaccines into an ideological issue.

At a joint press conference with Louis Sylvestre Radegonde, Szijjártó said both countries were spearheading vaccinations on their own respective continents, and both had used Eastern and Western vaccines, succeeding in protecting lives and restarting their economies.

On the subject of tourism and education ties, the ministers signed an agreement on a scholarship programme whereby 10 Seychelles students can study at Hungarian universities.

Also, talks on investment protection and the avoidance of double taxation are under way, he said.

He noted a hotel investment in the Seychelles “that may be the largest Hungarian investment in east Africa”.

A large part of the European Union’s security challenges stem from Africa, Szijjártó said. “So it’s vital that responsible countries like the Seychelles take firm action against terrorism and mass illegal migration,” he said.
