Wages continue to grow dynamically in Hungary, with the average gross salary exceeding HUF 700,000 (EUR 1 = HUF 400) for three months, the average net salary is close to HUF 500,000, and the median net wage is approaching HUF 400,000, emphasized Sándor Czomba, State Secretary for Employment Policy at the Ministry for National Economy, on Thursday.

He emphasized that the net average wages of those paid below the median are growing faster, showing that those earning a lower amount are catching up.

Sándor Czomba pointed out that last year, only Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county in Eastern Hungary did not reach the HUF 500,000 gross average wage, but now even there it has exceeded this threshold. In three sectors—IT, finance, and energy—the gross average salaries are consistently above HUF 1 million, but even in the hospitality services sector, which is usually at the bottom of the list, it appears to be steadily exceeding HUF 400,000.

He added that, in international comparison, the dynamics of Hungarian wage growth can be considered particularly good.

Between 2024 and the first quarter of 2025, gross average salaries in Hungary increased by 9.2 %, in Poland by 8.2 %, in the Czech Republic by 6.7 %, and in Slovakia by 4.9 %.

The state secretary also noted that the number of people employed in Hungary continues to exceed 4.6 million.
