Miskolc Forest Train Offers One-of-a-Kind Gastro Journey

Hungary Today 2025.07.19.

The city of Miskolc offers a unique tourist experience for lovers of nature and gastronomy. On Saturday, August 2, the Forest Gastro Express will launch, combining the values of sustainable tourism with the world of flavors and aromas in a unique way, Turizmus.com reports.

Passengers on the special train departing from the Dorottya Street station of the Lillafüred State Forest Railway will be able to travel on a different route than usual, getting to know another section of the narrow-gauge railway, all the way to the “Edible Forest” (“Ehető Erdő”) stop, where they can learn about the edible wild plants, fruits, and mushrooms of the Bükk Mountains on a guided wild plant research tour.

The professional tour will be led by Gyula Bózsó, a certified forest engineer, food scout, mushroom inspector, and author of the book Az ERDŐ finom (“The Forest is Delicious”).

The experience is rounded off not only by professional insights and tastings, but also by a unique “forest stand-up” genre, providing an insight into the hidden treasures of the forest with a touch of humor.

Before the train departs and after it returns, guests can take part in an optional tasting program at the Michelin-recommended Végállomás bistro.

This innovative gastronomic experience tour is one of Hungary’s most exciting tourist initiatives, serving not only gastronomic but also educational and nature conservation purposes.

The program is organized by MIDMAR Nkft. with the aim of diversifying the city’s tourist offerings and providing an experience in harmony with nature. The organizers aim to raise awareness of the importance of respecting nature and eco-consciousness, while enriching participants with unique experiences.

The program is ideal for couples, families, nature lovers, and anyone who wants to discover that the Bükk Forest is not only beautiful but also delicious.
