Viktor Orbán, prime minister of Hungary, has announced at an anniversary ceremony, that the government would launch the biggest economic development programme in the country’s history at the start of next year. Orbán said that, in exchange, Hungarian businesses were expected to grow stronger, expand, undergo renewal and contribute to making the goal of creating five million jobs a reality.
“If we are determined, we can succeed,” Orbán said, pointing to the example of Jüllich Glas Holding, a Hungarian-owned glass maker in Székesfehérvár in central Hungary that marked its 30th anniversary and the inauguration of a central office complex. The premier said the coming period would be the time for companies who want to expand and present new opportunity.
Meanwhile the opposition continues to criticize harshly economic policy of Orbán’s government. There are no strong municipalities, and there is no strong Hungary, if there are four million people living in poverty in the country, József Tóbiás, the leader of the Socialists said on the campaign trail. Referring to the local government elections to be held on next Sunday, he said it is the responsibility of municipalities to manage “social tension generated by the current government’s decisions”.
