NAV Leader Admits Ban And Rejects Charges

Tamás Székely 2014.11.05.

Portfolio.hu has reported, that the head of National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary (NAV), Ildikó Vida had revealed that she and some of her colleagues are among those state officials that were banned by Washington from travelling to the United States. However, Vida rejects all the corruption charges, claiming that she cannot comprehend this “groundless offensive against her and her office.”

Ildikó Vida gave an interview to daily newspaper Magyar Nemzet yesterday, saying she would set up an investigative team that will revisit every case that could be linked to companies operating in Hungary that are possibly involved in this. Vida stressed this procedure launched against them is unprecedented and called it a “vile attack”, denying that she was ever involved in any corruption case.

In the interview she said she was not considering stepping down because that would have validated the accusations. Vida also told that she and her colleagues had already informed the Hungarian government about the content of the letters they received from the US Embassy in Budapest. Since the letters did not specify any case or evidence, Vida and the other NAV officials are considering legal actions to defend themselves.
