One of Hungary’s most popular pop-rock bands is preparing for its largest-ever concert on the occasion of turning 15 years old this year.

‘Nineteen-ninety-nine, summer in Mezőrúr, that’s where it all started’, the band’s song 999 recalls. Magna Cum Laude, founded by a group of music friends and music fans hailing from the town of Gyula in September 1999, exploded into the music scene with its first singles and continues to collect successes and awards ever since.

Fifteen years, struggles, changes to the set, albums, clips and hundreds of concerts followed the journey of the original set comprised of Mihály ‘Misi’ Mező, Tibor ‘Tibi’ Szabó and Mihály ‘Misa’ Kara from the Gyula rehearsal room to grand stages and even beyond the country’s borders. Outstanding keyboardist Márton ‘Marci’ Lesták and drummer Máté Török joined the band later, but nevertheless became “columnar assistants” of the group.

The jubilee year also brought about a brand new studio album, published in early November under the title Köszönet, or ‘Thankfulness’. The mature and emotional, but nevertheless energetic record truly lives up to the festive year, the finish of which will be marked by a jubilee concert given by the band in the Budapest Sports Arena.

The birthday celebration will be a grand concert spanning Magna Cum Laude’s entire career, with new songs accompanied by the band’s classic hits. The group promises 2014’s largest end-of-the-year gig, with never before seen sound, light and visual effects and countless surprises.
