In Jasná, Slovakia in the central Low Tatras and High Tatras, where there are several ski resorts, the snow cannons were reopened at the beginning of March. Conditions have steadily improved by the resumption of snowfall at higher altitudes, reports Turizmus.com.
“In Jasná, the ski resort with the largest connected ski slopes in Slovakia, there are more than a hundred snow guns on standby,” says Maroš Kupčo, head of the Jasná Ski Resort. Taking advantage of the return of winter weather, snow is being produced, with particular attention being paid to the lower-lying resorts, which have already started to lose snow due to their lower altitude and higher temperatures. Snow is also being made on the more critical, steeper slopes, he noted.
On the slopes of Štrbské Pleso (Csorbató) at an altitude of 1,380 – 1,824 meters and on the very popular Jasná, snow cannons were put into operation in the early hours of March 6.
In addition, the weather forecast suggests for Tatranská Lomnica (Tátralomnic) to take advantage of the cool weather.

“Thanks to the new snow and the cooler weather, we are aiming to stabilize and improve skiing conditions,” added Dušan Slavkovský, director of the High Tatras Ski Resort.
The evening frosts have compressed the snow banks on the slopes, making the snow resistant to melting for a long time,
he added.

In the High Tatras, skiing is possible on Tatranská Lomnica (11.8 km of slopes), Štrbské Pleso (8.3 km of slopes), Starý Smokovec (Ótátrafüred) (4 km of slopes), and Jakubkova Lúka. The Tatra Temple of Ice, this year honoring the memory of Elizabeth II, is open every day until April 14, and admission is free. Jasná offers skiers over 40 kilometers of slopes, with cable cars connecting the northern and southern slopes.

After the warm days that brought spring skiing ahead of schedule, the cooler temperatures are now helping to improve conditions.
Snow is currently falling heavily on the slopes of the High Tatras and Jasná, with half a meter of snow expected.
Conditions should therefore be ideal for skiing over the long weekend of March 15 (national holiday, Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence of 1848-49). Skiing on Štrbské Pleso, Tatranská Lomnica, and Jasná will continue afterwards, while on Jakubkova Lúka and Starý Smokovec the season is scheduled to end next week after the long weekend.
