By 31 March, all mobile operators in Hungary will end zero-rating, meaning that users will have to pay for apps and services to which they have had unlimited access even if they have already exhausted the internet limit of their tariff plan, Telex reports.

The zero-rating tariff meant that users could use apps such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Spotify, and navigation apps for free, rather than using their data quota.

In June 2022, BEREC, the EU’s association of national regulators, issued new guidelines stating that, on the basis of case law, it does not consider any future zero-rating schemes that discriminate against certain platforms or types of apps to be applicable.
