Exhibition of Young Hungarian Photographers Opens in New York

Hungary Today 2023.09.10.

In the heart of SoHo, also known as New York’s art district, the Hungarian photography exhibition Photo Couture is on display for a week at Nanushka’s boutique. The works of eight young Hungarian photographers are exhibited, all related to the theme of fashion, reports Magyar Nemzet.

The exhibition coincides with New York Fashion Week, said one of the organizers, the director of the Liszt Institute New York. Csenge Palotai stressed that many of the artists included in the exhibition have already achieved international success, and expressed the hope that their unique vision will be recognized and appreciated by the New York public.

Attila Ledényi, founding director of Art Market Budapest and Art Photo Budapest in Budapest, and another organizer of the overseas exhibition, emphasized:

Thanks to the legacy of André Kertész, Robert Capa, László Moholy-Nagy, Brassai, and other influential classics, Hungary has a special relationship with photography,

which is also reflected in the creative vision of the emerging generations of artists, and the Photo Couture exhibition is a perfect example of this.”

The works on display are on the borderline between fashion photography and fine art photography. The works by Dávid Ajkai, Alianna Albert, Bálint Barna, Vivienne Bolla, Panna Donka, István Lábady, Wanda Martin, and Marietta Varga are the most recent examples of the art of fashion couture.

The week-long New York Fashion Week, running until next Wednesday, is one of the fashion industry’s defining global events.

The Photo Couture exhibition can be seen in several locations after its first presentation in New York. The Hungarian public can view the exhibition of eight Hungarian contemporary artists at Art Photo Budapest, the only international photography fair in Central and Eastern Europe, from October 19-22, as a side event of Art Market Budapest.
