The economic cooperation between Hungary and Bavaria has a future, because it is based on companies and economic players that have not yet lost their common sense, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in Munich.
The minister noted that after his meeting with the Bavarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economic Affairs, he first congratulated Hubert Aiwanger on his party’s recent election results.
“The most important conclusion we can draw from today’s meeting is that
the economic cooperation between Hungary and Bavaria not only has a respectable past and present, but also has a future, because it is based on companies, on economic actors,”
he emphasized.
The minister recalled that Bavarian companies are investing in Hungary at an ever-increasing rate, creating a growing number of jobs and bringing in state-of-the-art technologies, and the vast majority of them are very satisfied with the Hungarian investment environment. Bavaria is one of Hungary’s most important economic partners, as it has the highest trade turnover and the third highest investment volume of all German states, he added.
Szijjártó also held talks with Milan Nedeljković, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for production, and stressed that the company’s investment in Hungary will contribute significantly to the performance of the economy.
The politician welcomed the fact that BMW is about to bring the production of its first car based on an all-electric platform to the Debrecen (eastern Hungary) plant. He also said that the construction of the factory is progressing well, with recruitment of workers already underway.
“With BMW’s establishment in Debrecen, it has become one of the new centers of the European automotive industry. Moreover, it is largely thanks to Bavarian companies that Hungary is the third country in the world, alongside China and Germany, where all three major German car companies, including the two Bavarians, have their own factories,” Szijjártó stressed.
He also pointed out that
last year, Audi set a ten-year production record in Győr (western Hungary) with 177,000 cars.
“So Bavarian companies will continue to play an important role in the growth of the Hungarian economy,” the Minister added. Finally, he also touched on the fact that Hungarian-Bavarian trade reached a new record in 2023, and given current trends, there is a good chance that this will happen again this year.
