Artistic Footwear Exhibition Opens in Pécs

Among others, footwear designed for Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Fergie will be on display at an exhibition opening on Friday in the Southern town of Pécs, as a forerunner to the LOKART fine arts festival.

The operator of the Pécs Gallery, hosting the exhibition, said that the showcase, which will be held between 9 June and 3 September, will feature more than 80 shoes from the collection of the Virtual Shoe Museum in The Hague.

The showing, entitled Shoe Fantasies, will feature Zaha Hadid’s NOVA, made of chrome-plated vinyl rubber and Italian goat nappa leather, while the world of fashion and show business will be represented by shoes by Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Fergie.

In addition to the English, Belgian, Bulgarian, Dutch, Israeli, Japanese, Russian, Italian and Romanian designers, visitors will also be able to admire the shoes of Zita Atalai, Sára Kovács, Anna Melegh and Enikő Tóth-Kern,”

The curators of the exhibition are Liza Snook, founder of the Virtual Shoe Museum, and Flemish shoe designer Amber Aurélie Ambrose, who has become known around the world for her unique “sky-high heels”.

In 2004, Liza Snook created VirtualShoeMuseum.com, a digital platform for shoe enthusiasts and professionals to search for shoes by designer, color, type or material.
The exhibition, which opens in Pécs on Friday, is a prologue to the LOKART visual arts festival in Pécs from 21 to 25 June.

The second edition of LOKART, which will take place in ten venues and with the participation of almost a hundred artists, will feature visual and contemporary art as well as other works and performances.
