A horse-riding program extending to the entire Carpathian Basin will be launched, the Minister of State for National Policy of the Prime Minister’s Office said on Wednesday in Tusnádfürdő – reports Hiradó.hu.
Speaking at the 32nd Bálványos Summer Free University and Student Camps, Árpád János Potápi stressed that equestrian sport and equestrian culture are “an important part of our national heritage,” and this is especially true in the case of Szekler culture. At the same time, he added that they are at the 24th hour to show the equestrian culture to young people, as the main goal is to attract young people to a healthy lifestyle and sport.
The program was launched last year in Transylvania (in today’s Romania), with 220 million forints (EUR 578,444) of funding distributed to 75 riding associations. This has enabled them to support the training and sporting activities of 1,500 and 1,800 children per week.
The equestrian program, which is now expected to receive 400 million forints (EUR 1.05 M), will be extended to the whole Carpathian Basin.
The preparation of open tenders is underway and it is hoped that they will be assessed by the end of September.
Potápi expressed the hope that the Szekler horse would soon be included in the list of Hungaricums.

As part of the equestrian program, he said, they also want to strengthen equestrian tourism: not only would they offer accommodation opportunities for riders in every 20-30 kilometers, but they would ensure adequate conditions for horses as well. In addition, equestrian therapeutic activities and equestrian therapy will be promoted under the program.
Speaking on another topic, Potápi said that support for Hungarians living beyond the border has not been reduced. Strategic goals are not given up, and national policy is one such strategic goal, he stressed.
It is very important to strengthen national unity, and they are primarily counting on young people in this respect. All national policy measures are aimed at helping young people,”
the politician underlined.
He said it was important for the different nationalities to express their solidarity with the Hungarians of Transcarpathia, and to provide all the unified support they can.
