During the World Championship in India in the spring of 2021, sport shooter, István Péni, tested positive for doping. Later in the course of the investigation, it turned out that someone had entered his hotel room and stayed there for 45 minutes. Furthermore, it was found that Péni’s vitamin D tablets were mixed with furosemide. After analyzing the video footage which showed that Sidi spent some time in the athlete’s room, he was subsequently banned for two years.

However, Sidi was still able to continue his competitions because he is licensed in several countries and the MSSZ ban only applies to competitions for which his license is required. The sports shooter has now taken another step by recently obtaining Romanian citizenship. His wife, Roxána Sidi, is already a member of the Romanian national team.

Nevertheless, it is not yet certain if he will be able to join the Romanian national team, as he needs the approval of the Romanian Olympic Committee, as well as that of the Romanian, international, and Hungarian federations. However, according to media reports, it is unlikely that he will get it from Hungary and consequently will not be able to participate in the next Olympic Games in 2024.
