Three lions belonging to a travelling circus broke free from their cages in the southern town of Kecskemét today. Visitors were evacuated from the leisure park roamed by lions and it was feared that gaps in the fence could cause the lions to head in the direction of the city.
The three animals were caught within an hour after police turned up at the scene in large numbers for fears that the lions will make their way to the city through holes in the fencing. Luckily, this did not happen, despite the fact that a housing complex, a retirement home, a vocational school and a student dormitory would have been under threat had the animals managed to leave the leisure park.
Visitors were evacuated on lorries before all three lions were captured and returned to their cages.
