Beginning on June 15th of this year, Ukraine International Airlines will once again begin running a direct flight between Budapest and Kiev, according to Hungarian wire service MTI.
After a five-year absence, then, the Ukrainian national airline will once again be providing a direct link between the two countries’ capital cities. The airline’s route will be the only one flying directly between Budapest and Kiev Boryspil International Airport.
According to global travel news site eTurboNews, Budapest’s Ferenc Liszt International Airport saw a 24% increase in Ukrainian visitors in 2016, with more than 10,000 passengers arriving indirectly from Ukraine. The new direct route means that Ukraine International will now control half of all Ukrainian flights and seats from Budapest. In addition, the new flights will together offer more than 2,500 seats to Kiev Boryspil weekly, complementing existing routes that fly into the smaller Kiev Zhulyany Airport.
Discussing the new route, Jost Lammers, CEO of the Budapest Airport, emphasized the new travel options it opens up for those flying out of the Hungarian capital:
“Budapest and Kiev are wonderful destinations for city breaks, both capital cities having rich cultural heritage. While travelers from the Ukraine can benefit from more than 110 destinations available in our route network, Hungarian travelers can now transfer from Kiev to Bangkok, Amman, Tehran, Almaty, as well as reaching Odessa, Lviv and Kharkiv, all through the domestic network of Ukraine International Airlines.”
