Sziget Festival Reveals More Than 20 New Names for 2018 Line-Up

Sziget Festival announced more than 20 new names on their Facebook page this Monday, including main stage headliners Dua Lipa, Gorillaz and Shawn Mendes.

The Budapest-based festival had already dropped a few names and headliners for Sziget 2018, including Kendrick Lamar, Mumford and Sons and Kygo, as well as the long-awaited appearance of the British indie-rock band Arctic Monkeys. Sziget Festival’s new management has now revealed a bunch of new names for the 2018 line-up, including five-times Brit Awards nominee Dua Lipa, the former British YouTube cover singer who released her first album last summer with the UK number-one song “New Rules”. Damon Albarn’s British virtual band Gorillaz is also coming back to the country for their third Hungarian concert in two years. Canadian former social media artist Shawn Mendes will also perform at the Island of Freedom, as wil British grime star Stormzy and the recent Grammy winner American indie rock band The War on Drugs.

Other performers include Nick Murphy (formerly known as Chet Faker), Lianne La Havas, Desiigner, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Gorgon City live, JP Cooper, Petit Biscuit, KSHMR, Borgore, The Living End, Sofi Tukker, Scarlxrd, Delta Heavy, Seven Lions, Yellow Days, Bilderbuch and My Baby.

This year’s Sziget Festival, also known as the Island of Freedom, will take place between 8-15 August, on the Hajógyári Island in the middle of Budapest.

Last summer, around 450,000 people attended the 25th Sziget Festival. Hungary Today also spent time on the Island of Freedom, rocking out with incredible Chinese-Mongolian rock stars, wandering through a surreal inflated playground and, perhaps least memorably, watching Iggy Azalea dial it in. We also learned more about what goes into running such a colossal musical endeavor through an interview with one of Sziget’s chief organizers.

As summer is still a way’s off, you can tune in to the Island of Freedom with the festival’s updated Spotify playlist:
