The famous cafe at Kossuth tér celebrates its 1st birthday. The Szamos Café House runs a chocolate museum on the first floor, that has been expanded with interactive guidance and other services too.
A unique collection awaits visitors at the Kossuth square shop of the Szamos Company. The exhibition guides the guests through the history of chocolate. The 4500 exhibited tools were collected over the course of 30 years, and now they are displayed chronologically by museum expert Anikó S. Nagy. This trip through time shows visitors the history and changes of chocolate from its beginnings to the present day.
“I am happy to say the exhibition supports Hungarian culture too”, said Gabriella Szamos, the owner of the company. She said it is a responsibility of the traditional Hungarian brands.
The guidance is a brand new service of the museum, upgraded with the interactive stops at the exhibitions. At these locations, visitors can taste real coca beans, and can learn about the various types of marzipan. A short documentary film shows the story of the chocolate from cocoa fields through the chocolate factories all the way to store shelves. Visitors can make their own chocolates designed with French plums, nuts, cinnamon, raspberry, etc.
What’s more, at the museum you can see unique chocolate sculptures, such as the Nice Chocolate Girl made of 78 kilograms of marzipan. The life-sized work was inspired by the work of Jean-Étienne Liotard from Dresden.
You can also wonder at the miniature copy of the Hungarian Parliament made of marzipan proportionally scaled.
You can get lost in the sweet world of the chocolate museum after 3:00pm on three days of the week, on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. An important note: you need to register your visit beforehand at the webpage of the company. For 3500 forints (almost $12) you can take the chocolate-tour in the Szamos Chocolate museum.
