Last Friday Hungarians commemorated the 60th anniversary of the crushing of the 1956 anti-Soviet uprising. In the morning, the Hungarian flag was raised and then lowered to half-mast with military honours in front of Parliament to mark the day of mourning.
In the evening, candle lighting ceremonies were held nationwide in tribute to the martyrs. In Budapest a tribute concert (W. A. Mozart – Requiem) was also held in the St. Stephen Basilica.
