A crew of photographers from the meteorology website idokep.hu and one of their readers captured northern lights on film on Tuesday night. The extraordinary phenomenon, which appeared on the sky due to a geomagnetic storm, was last visible in Hungary in 2005.
The reader took his picture at an airfield in the southern town of Soltvadkert at 9 pm after pointing his camera northward to capture the event, which was visible only vaguely with bare eyes. Idokep.hu’s team immortalised the spectacular lights after midnight from the Pilis Hills near Budapest.
Northern lights were visible on Tuesday night looking northwards but only from areas not affected by light pollution. The phenomenon was last observed in Hungary ten years ago, the website wrote.
