New Ways Of Education – “We Should Give Harry Potter To The Children To Read“

The Hungarian education will change in the future, as a new National Curriculum of Education will be announced. The leader of the project, Valéria Csépe, surprised many people with her points of view and comments about the new educational curriculum currently being developed.

The psychology professor is the project’s Ministry Commissioner, and she announced they are up to radical changes. “We would like to write a new and modern national curriculum of education which better fits our modern age. The world has changed, children have changed, so we have to prepare the students for these new expectations and conditions.” Csépa Valéria also mentioned the importance of bringing technical developments into schools and to embed the teaching of digital skills.

It will not be the only change; the new curriculum project will rethink the list of the compulsory readings as well. They will take care to give books to the students that are age and reading-level appropriate. When a journalist asked Mrs. Csépe about that, if it is possible to endear reading to children if they have to read Jókai and classic works, she answered very briefly; “I try to give a professional answer to everything. About this question, my short answer is: no!” she said. “Many people attacked me when I said we should give Harry Potter to the children to read in the 3rd and 4th grades. But to tell the truth, that is exciting and interesting to them” she added. In her opinion in this age it is very difficult to endear reading to the young. If they are not interested and motivated, then they won’t read at all.

The commissioner added that the new curriculum will be much more flexible. It will work as an educational advice packet. However, they will not go to the other extreme and let everybody to do whatever they want, because that would lead to chaos.

According index.hu the new educational curriculum is expected to be introduced in the 2019/2020 school year.
