Icy Tsunami Is Coming – Scary Prospects About Flooding River Tisza

On the last week-end the first wafts of the Spring arrived to Hungary and the temperature passed on the way up the 0 degrees Celsius. The sun was shining and icicles started to melt. However, the ice started to melt in the frozen rivers too…

In the last few days several videos published about the flooding River Tisza with the ice-floes. As the melting starts the bigger floats can make a barrage in the water. When they broke over the river can turn to a “tsunami”.

The Tisza or Tisa is one of the main rivers of Central Europe. Historically, the Tisza was known as “the most Hungarian river,” due to the fact that the length of the entire river lies within the lands that were once part of the Kingdom of Hungary. Today, it crosses several national borders. The Tisza begins near Rahó (Rakhiv, Ukraine).

The icy flood can be dangerous and can cause  damages on the ships in the water and in the bridges
