Chicago Fire striker Nemanja Nikolics made it two goals in two games on his return to the national team as Hungary closed the year of 2017 with a 1-0 friendly win over FIFA 2018 World Cup participants Costa Rica in the Groupama Aréna in Budapest on Tuesday evening.
The decisive moment came in the 36th minute when Hungarian winger Roland Ugrai blasted a set-piece low towards goal and striker Nemanja Nikolics showed admirable improvisation to divert the ball to the right of Costa Rica’s goalkeeper Leonel Moreira and into the vacant side of the goal.
Following last week’s embarrassing defeat in Luxembourg, the friendly victory over Costa Rica was the second and last game for interim head coach Zoltán Szélesi in charge of the national football team. As of now, Hungary are managed by newly appointed Belgian head coach George Leekens.
