As we have previously reported, Hungarian artist Gábor Miklós Szőke was commissioned by recent Super Bowl runner-up team the Atlanta Falcons to create a colossal falcon statue for their new stadium.
According to Hungarian wire service MTI, the statue, created in the artist’s Budapest studio, is nearing completion, and will be soon be shipped to Atlanta, where it will stand directly in front of the soon-to-be-completed Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which will serve as the home of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United FC, a team in the North American MLS (Major League Soccer).
When it arrives in Atlanta, fans will walk under the bird’s 20-meter wingspan to walk into the new stadium.
Describing his work, the talented Hungarian artist says Atlanta’s new 12,5-meter high and 20-meter wide falcon is made of stainless steel and bronze, and will be the world’s biggest of its kind upon installation. “It is a brutally inspiring job, but an extraordinary responsibility too, the pressure on me is increasing from the beginning”, Szőke admitted.
The colossal sculpture will be transported across the ocean in four separate shipping containers.
