Hungarian Man Shot Dead In The Philippines After Dispute Over New Year’s Eve Firecrackers

A Hungarian national was shot dead in the Philippines, local media outlet ABS-CBN reported quoting Police. The 37-year-old man reportedly died after a neighbor’s dispute over New Year’s Eve firecrackers in a subdivision in Barangay Balabag in Pavia, Iloilo city on Sunday.

According to ABS-CBN’s report, the tragedy took place after midnight when the victim, Dániel Melczer, asked a security guard to tell his neighbor, Lucindo Lim, to stop setting off firecrackers because he wanted to sleep already. The guard went to Lim’s house twice to accommodate Melczer’s request and confiscated a .45 caliber pistol, however, he did not immediately report the incident.

Few hours later, Melczer’s fiancée, Réka Schule, woke up and found her fiancé’s body at the back portion of their house. She called the Police, who went to the house of Lim, who submitted himself to the authorities and surrendered another gun. Based on Lim’s statement to the police, Melczer allegedly kicked him and he lost his temper, that’s why he decided to took his gun.

The Hungarian couple is running a restaurant business in Iloilo City, and the victim had been staying in the city for almost two years.
