According to a report by Hungarian news site index.hu, Hungarian-born actress and socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor’s ashes will be taken to Budapest following a memorial service in Beverly Hills on December 30th.
Speaking to German news service DPA, Gabor’s husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, said that his wife would have liked to travel to her hometown, Budapest, one last time.
This news comes on the heels of rumors in Hungarian tabloid Blikk that Gabor’s last wish was to be buried in Budapest.
Gabor, who was one of the biggest personalities of Hollywood for decades, was a recognized beauty, and performed in numerous films, but was often better known for her many husbands and extravagant lifestyle; she was, years before the Kardashians or reality TV came onto the scene, the first person to be famous for being famous (read our article on the late star here).
Zsa Zsa Gabor already had a Hungarian passport, and she kept in contact with her relatives living in Hungary. But while she may have desired to return to the country of her birth, such a trip would have been quite difficult due to the health difficulties Zsa Zsa suffered in the years following her 2002 automobile accident.
Her only daughter, Francseca Hilton (daughter of Conrad Hilton), who died last year, had opposed such a trip to Hungary, because she reportedly worried that her mother would never return to the United States afterward.
