It is now a relatively safe bet that Nemanja Nikolic will be the goal-king of the US-based Major League Soccer (MLS). The Hungarian forward, who plays for the Chicago Fire, recently scored three goals in a match against Philadelphia, bringing him even closer to winning the coveted Golden Boot, an award bestowed on the player who scores the most goals in the league’s regular season.
Nemanja Nikolic is a Yugoslavian-born Hungarian footballer. Although he was born in Serbia, he was never selected for the Serbian National Team, and has been chosen to represent the Hungarian National Team instead.
While the Chicago Fire was initially down in their match against the Philadelphia Union, the second-half saw a major turn around thanks to two goals by Nikolic. In addition to a goal in the 3rd minute, Nikolic made a penalty kick in the 64th minute, which was followed up by another goal in the 78th minute of the match.
With the Fire’s win over Philadelphia, Nikolic’s league-leading goal total has risen to 24.
