Hungarian Anna Kun has won the gold medal at the European fencing championship for cadets and juniors in female fencing.
Ms. Kun was unbeaten throughout the championship, first defeatimg two Israelis among the best 64 and 32 and championed over her Russian opponent 15-9 in quarter-finals.
To the surprise of commentators, the finals saw her beating Italian world rankings leader Marzani with an enormous lead of 15-8.
Among Hungarian male contestant, Máté Bancsics achieved the best result, marching until quarter-finals and finally finishing in seventh position. Junior fencers finished individual events in the Slovenian town with five medals – female sabre cadet Anna Márton also won the title of European Champion, while foil cadet Dániel Dósa and epée cadet Zsombor Bányai won silvers and foil cadet Flóra Pásztor a bronze medal. The campionship will continue wilth junior group events.
The Hungarian team collected three medals last week in the cadet (under-18) age group, with the female epée team coming second and the male epée and the female foil team third.
