The European Festivals Association has included the Five Churches Festival, held in the western Hungarian city of Győr, in its list of the top 25 European festivals, organisers said.
Selected from among 715 applicants for a spot on the top festivals list, the festival is held every May on Győr’s Kossuth Street, which features five churches of different denominations in close proximity to each other. Accordingly, the festival focuses on shared values and the dialogue among religious communities.
The ‘five churches’ name is a tribute to the Catholic, Reformed, Lutheran, Greek Catholic and Jewish communities living side-by-side in peace
The European Festival Association’s award ceremony will be held in Brussels on September 18.
