The Faculty for Ukrainian Language and Culture Studies is to be reopened in the Nyíregyháza University, in eastern Hungary, the government commissioner for development in northeast Hungary and the Transcarpathian region said.
The college is a representative of regional and Hungarian culture and education in the world, and at the same time a representative of international culture in the heart of the Nyírség region. It is a primary mission of the college to reinforce cohesion of institutions of higher education along the eastern areas of the European Union: Slovakia, Romania and the Ukraine according the university’s introdiction page.
Closed in 2013, the faculty is to reopen at the request of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, István Grezsa said. With ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine demanding to be able to use their mother tongues, Slavistics and the Ukrainian language should also be available to study in Hungary, he added.
The Ukrainian Language and Culture Studeis Institute will be opened at the university to strenghten the relations between Hungary and Ukraine.
